General Information
- Organizer: GECAMIN
- Contact: DTGlobal (North America)
- Venue: Antofagasta, Chile
- Dates: 7 – 9 September 2011
About two years ago, the mining industry and the entire world faced a crisis that hit severely the economy of many countries. This crisis lasted for a non negligible period of time during 2008 and 2009. Fortunately, many countries began its recovery and during 2010 this process started to consolidate. Now, it is expected that 2011 will be the year that will represent the definitive consolidation of economic growth for many countries in the region after facing the aforementioned world crisis. The mining industry is not an exception to this growth and it is backing it by launching large projects that consider considerable investment, which will require the optimisation of its asset management.
Searching for excellence in asset management
The University of Queensland and Gecamin are pleased to invite executives, professionals and technicians involved in the management of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance of equipment used in underground and surface mines to participate in the 6th International Mine Equipment Maintenance Meeting, to be held from 7 - 9 September 2011 at Hotel Enjoy Antofagasta, Chile.
Objectives
MANTEMIN 2011 is organised to provide a forum for discussion and technical exchange among mine equipment maintenance professionals. The objectives of the meeting are to:- Promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences among executives, professionals and technicians involved in mine equipment maintenance.
- Discuss the emerging developments, identify and analyse the best maintenance practices as well as the technologies and procedures leading to successful applications.
- Generate a collaborative network of support and technical exchange among mine equipment maintenance professionals.
Areas of Interest
- Best maintenance practices
- Equipment availability, reliability and maintainability
- Inspection and condition-based maintenance techniques
- Experience in failure, diagnosis and solutions
- Information systems for maintenance management
- Equipment design improvements
- Optimisation of equipment and components’ service life
- New engineering developments
- Safety in maintenance
- Maintenance and the environment
- Remote maintenance / e-maintenance / technology-assisted maintenance
- Preventative maintenance optimisation (PMO)
- Change management in maintenance
- Maintainability and assets life cycle.
MAPLA Mantemin Synergy
For the third time, MAPLA and MANTEMIN will be held simultaneously, with the purpose of developing maintenance management strategies from a comprehensive point of view by considering the challenges and objectives that mine maintenance and plant maintenance have in common. Each event will have its own technical sessions, while plenary sessions and social activities will be shared.
Abstract Submission
Interested professionals are invited to submit a 300-word abstract of their paper in Spanish or English by 28 March 2011 to

Organizers
C-MORE, Centre for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering
The Centre for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering is part of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto.
C-MORE's research is driven by close interactions with industry, in particular with MORE consortium members and with researchers at universities world-wide. Their focus is on real-world research in engineering asset management in the areas of condition-based maintenance, spares management, protective devices, maintenance and repair contracts, and failure-finding intervals. These strong industry connections not only benefit the companies they work with, but also their graduate students, who find work in maintenance divisions of industry leaders after graduation.
C-MORE applies its research with prototype software tools that obtain valuable information from data in corporate databases. Two of these tools are now commercially available through the Ontario-based C-MORE spin-off company OMDEC, and through industry leader and innovator in asset reliability solutions Ivara.
Educational programs at C-MORE are based on its long history of application-based research in the field of maintenance management and its connections to leading practitioners and consultants in the field. The objective of the programs is to combine high quality content delivered by leading instructors with the academic rigour of the University of Toronto. These programs are designed to provide practitioners with first-hand knowledge to make them more effective in their workplaces in a short period of time through an intensive, interactive training environment.
C-MORE is also the driving force behind IMEC: the Asset Management Conference, which brings together leaders in the global maintenance field. IMEC is a place for participants to meet with colleagues and establish new contacts from a select group of internationally-recognized leaders in maintenance excellence.
